The Hong Kong metropolitan rapid transit system (MTR) consists of 11 lines covering central and remote districts of the city, Disneyland and the airport. They have different colours and names on the map: East Rail Line (light-blue), South Island (light-green), Kwun Tong Line (green), Kwun Tong Line (red), Island Line (blue), Tung Chung Line (orange), Airport Express (turquoise), Tseung Kwan O Line (violet), West Rail Line (purple), Ma On Shan Line (brown) and Disneyland Resort Line (pink). The MTR has 91 stations with total lines length of 181,7 km. Working hours: from 5.30 a.m. till 1 a.m.
In the Hong Kong MTR there are three fare classes: Adult, Students and Concessionary (for children up to 12 and people over 65). The cost of a journey also depends on the quantity of fare zones you cross. Thus, the price of a single ticket may vary from HKD 4.5 up to HKD 51. Moreover, you can use a contactless Octopus card which provides journey discounts and may be recharged in ticket machines, or a Tourist Pass which allows taking an unlimited quantity of journeys by Hong Kong public transport during the day.
Tickets and cards may be purchased from ticket machines and ticket offices. Metro stations are entered through ticket barriers.
