The Kiev Metro is a metro system that is the mainstay of Kiev's public transport. It now has three lines with a total length of 67.6 kilometers (42.0 mi) and 52 stations. The hours of operation are from 5:45 am to 00:00 pm. The train frequency during peak hours of 7am to 9am is about 2 to 3 minutes and about 5 to 7 minutes during off-peak times.
A single ride costs 8.00 hryvnia regardless of destination and number of transits within the metro. There are one week cards for 14 rides cost of 104 hryvnias and two week cards for 30 rides cost of 210 hryvnias. A travel card that offers unlimited number of journeys is sold for 610 hryvnias. You can also use a credit card, Aplle Pay, Google Pay and a contactless card when entering the metro that grants discounts depending upon the number of journeys you have made. The card itself costs 15 hryvnias. It features a 20% discount for journeys - 6.50 hryvnias.
The ride is paid by plastic tokens and contactless cards when entering the metro. Plastic tokens are used for turnstiles; the tokens can be bought from cashiers at all stations or from automatic exchange machines that exchange 2 and 10 Hryvnia bills into tokens. Contactless cards are also used to enter the metro. The card can be purchased for a small fee (7 hryvnias; refundable should one want to return the card) from cashiers and loaded for up to 50 trips with the same per-ride price as tokens. The cards can be recharged either by a cashier, or by using a terminal.
