The Nanjing Metro consists of 5 subway lines and 6 commuter train lines serving the city center and suburbs. Each line has its own serial number and color designation: 1 (blue), 2 (red), 3 (green), 4 (purple), 10 (beige), S1 (turquoise), S3 (light lilac), S6 (lilac ) S7 (ash pink), S8 (orange), S9 (yellow). The total length of the Nanjing metro lines is 427 km and 191 stations are opened to serve the passengers. Nanjing subway working hours are from 6:00 to 0:00.
The fare on the Nanjing metro depends on the distance and varies from 2 to 15 CNY. A one-time ticket is made in the form of a token. For convenience and savings, fares can be paid using the Nanjing Public Utility IC Card "Jinlingtong" contactless electronic card, which is valid in all types of public transport and many shops around the city. When paying by card in the metro, a 5% discount applies, when transferring from the metro to the bus - 20%, in the bus - 20%. The security deposit for a regular smart card is CNY 25, for a personal one - CNY 30. The minimum deposit amount is 50 CNY, the maximum is 1000 CNY.
Tickets and cards are sold at vending machines, as well as at ticket offices at every Nanjing metro stations. The machines accept coins and banknotes up to 50 CNY. The ticket or card must be attached to the turnstile scanner and kept until the end of the trip. At the exit, the card should be attached to the reader (the fare will be charged from it), and the ticket should be inserted into a special hole in the turnstile. If the fare exceeds the cost of the ticket or the balance on the card, the turnstile will not open.
