Lines

The subway in Guangzhou has 14 lines. Each line has its own number, color and name: 1 (yellow), 2 (blue), 3 (orange), 4 (green), 5 (red), 6 (violet), 7 (light-green), 8 (turquoise), 9 (seafoam), 13 (olive), 14 (brown), (Guangfo Metro (lime) and Zhujiang APM (light-blue), Haizhu Tram (shamrock). There are 190 subway stations. Overall length totals to 308,7 km. Working hours: 5 AM – Midnight.

Fare

The subway uses a distance-based fare system where prices range from 2 to 14 CNY per one trip. Alongside one-time tickets, there are 1-day (20 CNY) and 3-day (50 CNY) travel passes. Additionally, a contactless rechargeable card Yang Cheng Tong can be used in any means of public transportation. The card offers a discount, which increases with the number of rides made. It costs 30 CNY to get the card. Please note, that is has to be charged with amounts which are divisible by 10. The card is refundable and 20 CNY are granted back in this case. The funds left on the account are not refunded.

Ticketing

Tokens and cards are sold at ticket offices and TVMs. TMVs accept 0,5 CNY и 1 CNY coins, as well as 5 and 10 CNY banknotes. Passing through the faregate you have to insert the ticket into the reader or swipe the card over it. Please, keep it throughout the ride as it has to be validated at the end of the trip. Leaving the station, swipe it again or put the token into the reader. In case the travel limit is exceeded, the faregate won't let you pass. However, the difference can be covered at ticket offices found near to the gate. The card could be recharged at the closest TVM.
