The Wuhan metro consists of 11 lines that connect the central part of the city with its suburbs. Wuhan metro fare depends on the distance and varies from 2 to 15 CNY. A one-time ticket for the Wuhan Metro is issued in the form of a token. Journey can also be paid using contactless electronic card - the Wuhan City Smart Card "Wuhan Tong". The card is valid in all types of public transport, as well as in shops and supermarkets in Wuhan. Tokens and cards are sold at vending machines installed at every station on the Wuhan Metro. You can top up the card in vending machines or using a mobile application. When entering the Wuhan subway station, the card or token should be swiped to the turnstile reader and kept until the end of the trip. At the exit, the card must be again attached to the reader and the token must be inserted into a special hole in the turnstile. If the fare exceeds the cost of the ticket or the balance on the card, the turnstile will not open. The difference will need to be paid at the information office located next to the turnstiles, and the card must be topped up at the machine.
