The Dubai Metro consists of two lines, the red one and the green one, which are mainly elevated with small underground parts. It makes it easy to travel around the city, including main leisure centres and airport. It has 49 stations with total lines length of 74,6 km. Working hours: from 5.50 a.m. till midnight (Saturday – Wednesday), and from 5.50 a.m. till 1 a.m. on Thursdays. Please note that the metro runs from 10 a.m. till 1 a.m. on Fridays.
The cost of a journey by metro varies subject to the distance and selected comfort class. A journey within Tier 1 zone costs AED 4,00 and allows travelling within 180 minutes. Tier 2 means a journey from one zone to another and costs AED 6,00 whereas Tier 3 means crossing two zones and costs AED 8,50. Gold Class tickets cost twice as much. A multi-use magnet Nol Red card, which serves as the subway ticket, can be used in any means on public transport. The card itself costs 2 AED.
Tickets can be purchased from ticket offices and ticket machines installed at stations. You can pay both in cash and with a bank card. Yet, take it into account that control is performed at stations, so keep the ticket until the end of the journey trying not to damage it; otherwise, you will have to pay a fine.
